New Canadian Immigration Program

Canada is developing a new fast-track immigration scheme for international students and temporary foreign employees.

According to CBC News, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said the new programme will provide a permanent route for temporary residents. It will be comparable to, but not identical to, the TR2PR programme, which welcomed 90,000 essential workers and foreign student grads last year.

“Right now, we’re trying to figure out the best approach to provide a permanent pathway for temporary residents,” Fraser told CBC News.

Fraser was given the task of “expanding routes to Permanent Residence for international students and temporary foreign employees” shortly after being appointed immigration minister. According to a vote passed in the Canadian House of Commons, Fraser now has 120 days to draught and announce a strategy to attain these objectives.

“That puts me under a tight deadline to come up with a structure to develop this new permanent residence pathway, not just for international students, but also for temporary foreign employees,” Fraser explained.

When Fraser’s 120 deadline expires on September 8, further information about the new programme will be accessible.
