NHS Care

You might be eligible to receive free social care and support provided by the National Health Service under certain circumstances.

Affordable Home Ownership Schemes

You may be entitled to receive financial aid from the government to purchase a new home. You could obtain a loan to help cover the cost of a new-build home when you are buying a house for the first time or get a home through shared ownership.

Statutory Sick Pay

Receive a weekly payment of £96.35 via the Statutory Sick Pay if you are found to be too ill to work. Your employer will be responsible to pay the said amount for up to 28 weeks.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is a monthly payment to help with your living costs. Your Universal Credit payment is made up of a standard allowance and any extra amounts that apply to you.

Employment and Support Allowance

Receive a weekly payment up to £114.10 if you are limited to work by disability or health conditions. You will be paid the ‘assessment rate’ for 13 weeks while your claim is being assessed.

  • up to £59.20 a week if you’re under 25 years old
  • up to £74.70 a week if you’re 25 years or older

After you are assessed and deemed eligible, you will be placed into the work-related activity group if you are able to get back into work in the near future, otherwise you will be placed into the support group. The payments are:

  • up to £74.70 a week if you’re in the work-related activity group
  • up to £114.10 a week if you’re in the support group

Jobseeker's Allowance

Receive a maximum amount of £74.70 fortnightly when you’re looking for work.

Social Care and Support

Social Care and Support is designed to help those who are in need of practical support due to illness or disability, or care for someone who is receiving social care and support. Types of social care and support include: 

  • Help at home from a paid carer
  • Meals on wheels
  • Having home adaptations
  • Household gadgets and equipment 
  • Personal alarms and home security systems
  • Different types of housing like supported living services and care homes

Maternity Leave and Pay

You will be entitled to Statutory Maternity Leave and Statutory Maternity Pay when you have a baby.

  • The total duration of Statutory Maternity Leave is 52 weeks and it consists of Ordinary Maternity Leave (first 26 weeks) and Additional Maternity Leave (last 26 weeks).
  • Statutory Maternity Pay is paid for up to 39 weeks. Receive 90% of your average weekly earnings for the 6 weeks, and £151.97 or 90% of your average weekly earnings for the remaining 33 weeks.

Maternity Allowance

Receive a maximum weekly payment of £151.97 for 39 weeks when you are expecting a baby. You are entitled to this benefit if you:

  • Are employed but unable to receive Statutory Maternity Pay
  • Are self-employed
  • Have recently stopped working
  • Involved in unpaid work for the business of your spouse or civil partner

Paternity Pay and Leave

You might be eligible for Paternity Leave, Paternity Pay, and Shared Parental Leave and Pay when you take time off because your partner is having a baby, adopting a child or having a baby through a surrogacy arrangement.

  • You can take either 1 or 2 weeks of Paternity Leave
  • Receive a weekly payment of £151.97, or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is lower)

Child Banefit

Receive payment every 4 weeks if you are responsible for raising a child who is:

  • Under 16
  • Under 20 if they are staying in approved education or training

Childcare Grant

Receive a payment up to £307.95 every week if you are a full-time higher education student, have children under the age of 15, or under the age of 17 if they have special educational needs, and must be eligible for Student Finance.

Parent's Learning Allowance

Receive up to £1,821 per year for help with your learning costs if you are a full-time student with children.

Free Childcare for 3 and 4 years olds

Children who are 3 and 4 years of age are entitled to receive complimentary free early education or childcare up to 15 hours a week for 38 weeks in a year.

Master's Loan

Receive up to when you are enrolled in a postgraduate master’s course to help with course fees as well as living expenses.

Free School Meals

Your child may be eligible to receive free school meals if you are receiving certain benefits. Your children will remain eligible to receive free school meals until the phase of schooling ends.

Free School Transport

Your children may be eligible to get free transport to school depending on the distance of the walk to school, any special needs they have, and the safety of the walk to school.

NHS Bursaries

You may receive the NHS Bursary as a full-time or part-time student to help cover the cost of study as well as living expenses. The amount received is based on the length of your course, household income, where you live and study.

Free Education at a state School

Children between age 5 and 16 can receive free education at a state school, with funding from local authority or from the government. The most common state schools are:

  • Community schools, also known as local authority maintained schools
  • Foundation schools and voluntary schools
  • Academies and free schools
  • Grammar schools

Council Tax Reduction

Received up to 100% reduction in Council Tax if your income is low or is currently claiming certain benefits. The amount of reduction varies depending on:

  • Where you live
  • Your household income
  • If your children live with you
  • If other adults live with you
  • Other circumstances

Pension Credit

Receive extra money to help with daily living expenses if you’re over State Pension age and is earning a low income. Get additional top up of:

  • £177.10 if you’re single
  • £270.30 if you have a partner

You may get extra amounts if you have other responsibilities and costs.
