24 May 2017: NEW ZEALAND
The minimum points required for applicants to apply for a New Zealand residence visa under the Skilled Migrant Residence is 160 points.
The most recent selection of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) under the Skilled Migrant Category took place on 24 May 2017.
A total number of 586 applicants with 160 or more points, representing 1,127 people, will now undergo preliminary verification to determine if an invitation to apply for residency will be issued.
Out of 586 applicants, 534 applications were lodged onshore (in New Zealand) and these applicants, except 1, had an offer of employment from a New Zealand employer. Only 51 applications were lodged offshore (outside of New Zealand) with 40 of them having an offer of employment from a New Zealand employer.
The recent decision to increase the minimum points required to qualify for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) means applicants with hopes to apply for a New Zealand residence will need to have at least 8-10 years of work experience in an identified future growth area or absolute skills shortage area, a recognized level 7 or higher qualification for both main applicant and spouse, work or study experience in New Zealand, and close family in New Zealand if they do not have a job offer from a NZ employer.
